Progress is being made

So, a few things. Mostly, things are going okay. I think the shrines have settled down into a configuration I’m happy to work with for the time being, so I’ll get on to the State of the Shrines post this week, just so that’s one less thing I need to worry about.

I’ve been posting my #domagick stuff over at the grimoire, in case anyone wants to read about my daily experiments with fire magic and self-transformation. Also decluttering. It seems to be going well so far. I’ve got about a month left or so until I’m done. It’s the only place I’m doing daily blogging right now, so feel free to head over and see what I’m doing.

I’m still working on the Shedety daybook, though I have now made a book for it, so all I need now is the calendar. I’ve started on the list of Wesir and Aset-Renenutet festivals, and once they’re done, I’ll begin combining them all, and putting the final calendar together. Then it’ll be revisions, and formatting, and once it’s all done, writing it all into my book. I’ll show it off once it’s done.

Finally, the Covenant of Hekate are running another creative project for the next month or two over on FB, and this project is to create art, to draw Hekate as you see Her. I am sorely tempted to attempt to draw, at last, the Isis-Hekate(-Mary) statue I have had stuck in my head for the past four months or so, since I have no other ideas. And it would at least stop nagging at me, so. That’s one other thing that may turn up here, or at the grimoire idk. But we’ll see. I might end up drawing something else entirely.

Art (draft): Isis Smiting Her Enemies

Isis smiting art draft

This is based on the dream I wrote about previously. I felt an urge to begin drawing Her this afternoon, and this is what I’ve got so far. The perspective’s a bit … off, in terms of what was meant to be in what hand, but I was more concerned about the pose and how the snake, and the crook and flail, were positioned.

I did trace the basic forms and then embellished them to fitt, but I wanted them to look right, not try to draw them freehand, which would have looked awful. I am not a great artist. But I do my best. I still have the background/setting to do, as well as the inking and colouring, but it’s not a bad result to start with, and you’ve probably got a better idea of what I was talking about in my dream in terms of what I saw. Even if the hands are the wrong way around. Just pretend you’re looking at Her back.

This is my Sobek part 1: Feraligatr and Lugia

The Water type crocodile starter pokémon, Feraligatr, and the Psychic/Flying (???) type legendary God of the Seas (psychic/flying???) pokémon Lugia. (Srsly why is Lugia not a Water type?)

The Water type crocodilian starter Pokémon, Feraligatr; and the Psychic/Flying (???) type legendary God of the Seas (o.O???) Pokémon Lugia (why are you not a Water type? WHY?). …Gods, they even have a similar body shape wtf. o.O?

So I hadn’t intended to get to this particular post until later, but fuck it, it’s Pokémon’s 20th anniversary today, and I am all Pokémon nostalgic because I just got Blue, Red, and Yellow on my 3DS, and have started Blue, the first Pokémon game I ever played. I have my original Bulbasaur starter back, and it is fabulous. So you’re getting a Pokémon post today.

I’m not going to talk about Gen I, though. I’m going to talk about Gen II, and the first time I played Silver, and how Sobek and I have formed an unbreakable bond through Pokémon. (And other things, of course. But also Pokémon.) It will get long, and meandering, but there are pictures and artwork and it’s Sobek and Pokémon and all that good stuff. 😀

Happy Birthday, Sobek! :D

Gathering Offerings at the Shrine at Kom Ombo. Devotional Art for Sobek for His birthday festival on July 10th/II Peret 10, 2013. Coloured pencil and pen on bog-standard A3 cartridge paper.

Gathering Offerings at the Shrine at Kom Ombo. Devotional Art for Sobek for His birthday festival on July 10th/II Peret 10, 2013. Coloured pencil and pen on bog-standard A3 cartridge paper. Took me 7 hours. Worth every minute. ILU, Daddy. ❤

Just did a simple rite for Him this evening, though it was later than I had planned for, due to unexpected relatives dropping by (at some point unknown!) and I didn’t want to be interrupted. I kinda hoped all they wanted to do was drop something off and then leave, which they did, but I didn’t want to assume that, either, so it kind of made things more difficult than they needed to be. So the rite wasn’t quite at sunset, but about forty minutes later. But, I don’t think Sobek minded.

Still, I offered Sobek marinated chicken, which we had for dinner, a rum + Coke, and a mini mud cake thing (because birthdays!), as well as the art. I wrote a birthday hymn, which I read for Him at the beginning, and I read out His adorations once the offerings had been given.

And now I am playing ALL THE SABBATH because metal! and Sobek! and, well, like I need a reason, anyway, but. :D? Though I will be doing my 750words.com words in a moment before bed, because also LAPTOP IS COMING TOMORROW MORNING OMG. 8D?

Anyway, this is meant to be about Sobek, so instead of turning this into a DW entry, I’ll post the hymn I wrote for Him, and cc it over to the prayers/hymns section tomorrow.

Sobek’s Birthday

Woo! So my calendar has a festival for Sobek’s birthday in January (Jan 12th/IV Shomu 16), and again in July (July 10th/II Peret 10). So as it’s this Wednesday, followed by a processional festival, I’ve been preparing offerings and hymns and such. I’m planning for some sort of chicken dish on Wednesday, with rum and maybe a cake. With or without a candle. 😛

I’m also writing a hymn for Him specifically for His birthday, which I’m planning to tweak a little for use at His January birthday festival. Not necessarily invoking the Solstices directly, but alluding to them, sure. I think it’d be nice to have something to use specifically for His birthday. Contemplating some sort of formal rite at sunset (since my weird UPG connects Him with the evening/Temu-Ra/the Western horizon), as well. It’s a Lord of Bakhu thing.

I think for Thursday I’ll take at least one of His icons/figures around the house and gardens (if it’s not raining), since it is meant to be a processional, and that’s kinda what you do for processionals. Except mine will be much less epic and more me, myself, and Sobek. But, y’know, I’m sure He understands that it’s just me, and I’m doing all I can.

Hymns for Sobek and Heru

I’ve started keeping a little 6inx8in sketchbook as a devotional art/prayer book thing for Heru and Sobek. It’s a smaller Strathmore journal, like the one I’m using for my epic big calendar thing, though it’s just bog standard sketching paper rather than Bristol board. I picked it over other journals because the cover has a pattern on it that reminds me of crocodile skin. It seemed appropriate. 😛

Art had been pouring out of me lately, as well as writing, so I’m taking this as a good sign that the Muses have been about lately, giving me Their gifts. That, and I’ve finally got over the burnout from writing ~60k that Harlequin fic in three weeks back in April or sommat. o.O? *collapses* Or, IDK, perhaps doing all those SDF rites has awoken up all my artistic creativity or something? *MAKES ALL THE ARTZ!*

But that’s for another post, I think. It’s a bit late to get a couple of pages scanned in, but I’ve filled about fourteen pages in about a week, with both art and writings. Been pondering Solstice!Heru as well, and getting some Heruakhety vibes. I’ve been connecting better with Heru lately, as well, since I was going to honour Him at Solstice and whatnot. Like, actually feeling Heru’s presence, slight and subtle that it is. More than once. And knowing it’s really Him. It’s like I finally found the right frequency, and He’s been coming in strong at last. So clearly I’m getting somewhere!

(I feel like I should make some sort of snide comment about how this wouldn’t be a problem if there weren’t +ELEBENTY different Herus to deal with, but…)

Project – Perpetual Festival Calendar Book Thing

So, I picked up this visual journal at Jacksons, which does art supplies and such, and felt it was just right for this project. I got one with Bristol board/paper, mostly because I wanted to try it out. That, and I knew I wasn’t going to use much more than pens and coloured pencils, and felt the mixed media one could wait for another more appropriate project.

This journal has 24 pages in it, and I felt that was just right for a calendar. I decided it was time to put together something of a proper festival calendar, since I use a fixed calendar, and I wanted something of a perpetual reference. I will still do up calendars every year, because the moons and such change every year, but the bones of the festival calendar remain the same, and I wanted somewhere I could list each month, and all the festivals in it, with perhaps suggestions on what to do for each one, just to make me feel like it’s not just a day on a calendar.

I’ve finished January, which took me three hours or so, and I’ve done basic pencil work for February-June on the first pages of those months. Still have a lot of work to do on it, but it’ll get there. In the meantime, have some photos of my progress. ❤

I has an Aset-Nut!

Inspired by this thread over on the HoN boards. And by Aset-Nut pretty much telling me to go! paint! Her! naow! this afternoon. So I obeyed. And thus, I have spent the last hour painting my first statue. Achievement unlocked!

Painted Egyptian statue of Aset-Nut

It isn’t the world’s greatest paint job, given all the tricksy little almost-impossible-to-reach places and my not-very-steady hand, but I guess She wouldn’t have bugged me to do it if She didn’t want it, dodgy painting skillz aside.

I had thought about painting on the vulture headdress, but I decided I’d stretched my skills far enough, and decided against it. It wasn’t present on the statue before I’d painted it, excepting the vulture poking out from the brow, so I had no guide there to follow either. That would’ve helped, tbh. But She seems pleased with it, so I can’t really complain.

Apparently I have too many Isis statues? Because this one was standing in for Isis, but apparently that’s the other Aset-suckling-Heru on my divination shrine that’s being Isis. So this one has become Aset-Nut. Heru has become baby!Ra, and His skin is ever-so-slightly blue because I suck at painting. 😄

Box Shrines Update

They’re not done yet, but most of the main decoratoring is done. I just need to add names/hieroglyphs/etc.

One is for Amun, as promised, and the other was claimed by Wesir. I hadn’t planned to make Him one, but He kept niggling about wanting a shrine, and I kept saying I had no more room for shrines, so He claimed my second box instead.

They’re painted with bog standard acrylic craft paint, and I Mod Podged the paper on afterwards. I’m still pondering top coats/sealers/whatever else I want to do to them before I finish them properly.

Photos after the cut.
