The shrines have settled in

Wesir all wrapped and ready for the Mysteries.

So I wrote a while back about changing the shrines around, but I didn’t want to post about them until they’d settled in. Sometimes, new shrine arrangements need time for me to tweak them, to make sure they are right. Big changes, too, are ones I feel I need to sit with, in case I decide to change them back. So I have given myself a week or so to tweak and sit and practice and figure out what I need to do to make them right, and I think I’m done, for the moment. Shrines always change, they never stay the same, so this is no more permanent than my other shrines. It’s just a reflection of where I am in my path right now.

I’ve also just got around to wrapping my statue of Wesir. It’s a bit later than I normally do it, given there’s only a week to go. But I noticed the lack of His presence once it was done. I do miss Him during this time, but it’s never permanent.

One thing I did achieve today was to go back through the Daybook and pick out all the Mysteries of Wesir-related festivals, and begin compiling something for that. I wanted a more complete picture than the eight-day one I’ve been working with, and going by the dates, I’m actually a few weeks early with mine if I schedule it on May 1, so that’ll be something to think about, whether I keep the May 1 start date, or keep the Kemetic dates instead.

I wouldn’t mind moving it so much. It would give me a bit of breathing space to do a more Hekate-focused May 1 High Day rite without it crashing into the Mysteries. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. I would appreciate that, since I wouldn’t need to try to do too many things at once. So that’s definitely on the cards, but nothing’s been decided yet.

Happy Solstice!

I had a lovely ritual tonight with Hekate Kourotrophos to mark the winter solstice. I’m beginning to understand why the blade is important to me, but it’s just niggling thoughts at the moment. Hekate Kourotrophos is very … blunt. But I like Her. And I do volunteer for Save the Children here in Australia, which is right up Her alley. So donations in Her name were suggested, which makes sense to me. I’ll write up the ritual on my DP blog later, but for now, have a little dodgy phone camera video of my shrine from tonight’s ritual.

I wish you a blessed and peaceful Solstice. May the gods be with you. ❤

Mysteries of Wesir preparations

Mysteries of Wesir shrine prep

This year’s Mysteries of Wesir shrine. It’s very pared back and simple, but I think it gives it a strong focus. How much of the stuff I removed will go back afterwards, I don’t know, but we’ll see.

The full moon is coming up, and I have some tools to consecrate. So it seems like the time to set up properly for the Mysteries of Wesir. I also redid the druid shrine for the coming High Day, which I still haven’t settled on yet, but it’ll be about Hekate if nothing else, so. I’ll probably do it a day or two before May 1, just so there’s space for both. I think the only thing I’ve needed to get is some more black taper candles, which I just ordered on ebay, because this is Australia in April, and black candles are hard to find at the best of times, so.

It’s been a strange week, in many ways. My daily devotions have been ad-libbed, and the gods I mention almost all the time are Ra and Wesir as I light the candles. It’s strange to do that after having such deity-focused devotions for so long, but I find it refreshing. A lot of my words have been about purifying myself; I find I’m censing myself, and purifying myself with the water offerings, and drinking in the light from the flames and letting them wash over me. It feels like it’s been a week-long ritual purification, but I’m okay with that.

There was a bit of meditation with Sobek this morning in my half-asleep state, so I’m tempted to feel like this is when things are slowly coming back to normal. The full moon ritual tomorrow, when we consecrate the heka knife, the heka snake wand, and Hekate’s knife, will probably be the start of the preparations proper for the Mysteries and the coming High Day.

I won’t be able to do the full 6 hour night vigil, though. I’ve got some paid work to do the day after, so staying up all night is not an option. I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do; it’ll either be a day vigil instead so there are still 6 hours done, or it’ll be a shorter vigil in the evening, perhaps 8pm til 11pm. I’m tempted to do it during the day, because I haven’t done a full six hour vigil for a long time, and even though it won’t be quite the same during the day, it’s better than cutting it short again. But we’ll do some divination and see what the gods want.

Anyway, I have rituals to prepare and write, so I’ll leave this here. I’ll post photos of the tools later once they’ve been consecrated so you can get a better look at them and what I did with them to decorate and consecrate them.

The New Year Beckons

Wep Ronpet Preparations - Children of Nut and Geb

Preparations for Wep Ronpet. I made some new linens for the new year for Nut and Geb’s children, all hand-sewn. The (not always well-defined) ankh in the centre holds the material together, while the edging finishes it off. Nebthet has purple thread, Set has red, Heru-wer has brown, Wesir has black, and Aset has blue.

Yas, it is time to prepare for Wep Ronpet, which, for me, starts on the 27th with the first of the Days Upon The Year. Because, for some reason, I can prepare ahead of time for Kemetic festivals, I started on some new linens for the god statues, made of some white fabric I’ve had lying around in my altar cloth box for years. I am not big on sewing, but I do find it a good method of stitching magical things together, so I do it for that reason. They’re sort of shaped like the sa amulets? Each is tailored for each statue, and they are sewn together, at the centre, with a long-stitched (not always very good) ankh shape. The edges are sewed with the same thread colour to finish it off. I think they turned out alright for someone who is not a sewer.

I also wanted to do a bit of the Feast of the Dressing stuff done early, because that day, the 26th, is not only Australia Day, but I also have a family party to go to, and who knows when that will end? So it just seems easier to slowly work through those preparations now when I have the time, rather than wait and try to fit it all in during a single day.

New shrines! :D

I’ve spent all day moving books and other things into my room omg. It’s all done. The floor’s done, the walls are done, the new light+fan is in, and now all I need to do is fit everything back in again. Bweee. ❤

There’s still a little out in the garage, and I still need cull some things, but at least I have a functioning room again. It’s so nice. I think it’ll take a few days to sort out where all the shrines are going, as well as all my other stuff. I have even sorted my Paganish books a little, though I might thin them out a bit. Might move all the generic fairytale/folklore books to the other shelves, and keep that one for proper Paganish things. Rae Beth’s Hedge Witch might be on the cull list, tbh, though, because it just didn’t agree with me, and I could use that space for another book I like much better. I think it has pencil marks in it, but otherwise, it’s in great condition. Has been to New Zealand and back in January 2012 or whenever it was I went to NZ. Do I keep the one book on astrology I bought in a supermarket for, like, $10, or ditch it because I never fucking do astrology. These are the questions that are plaguing my mind at the moment. Go me!

Anyway. I bring shrine pictures. 😀 I have the candles lit, and I found my frankincense cones, so I’ve got one burning atm. I have missed that smell, I really have. Myrrh just isn’t the same. (Well, yes, thank you, Captain Obvious.) I’ve got the Mysteries of Wesir shrine set up too. It’s quite pared back from previous years, but I think that’s also partly just getting used to using a new space, and figuring out what works. There aren’t any candles this year, because they’ve been stuck in boxes in my garage, but also because, well, it feels weird to, well, light up that space. Wesir’s all covered up in black, with Heru and Aset by His side, in His shrine box. I haven’t done any rituals for the Mysteries yet. I’ve been too busy fixing shrines and finding places for books and other assorted things. I want to do the Night Vigil at any rate, even if I just sit in shrine the rest of the week. But I hope I”ll have more of a mind for these things once this room is sorted out. I’ve hardly thought of anything else, and I want to get writing, and move on to other not-dealing-with-renovations things.

But enough babble. There will be moar under the cut with the photos, I daresay, so I might add the cut and get on with it.

Feast of the Dressing

Sobek/Heru-sa-Aset shrine overview

All set up for Wep Ronpet! 😀

It has really felt like the last day of the year, though. Lotsa things went wrong. Photos got deleted. I broke a camera. My mother broke both a bowl, AND her best sewing machine. FML, etc. But I did get my shrine redone properly, finished two sets of liturgy for Wep Ronpet, and for the next equinox, AND I wrote 1000+ words today, so! Counting my victories and all that. Took the chance to take everything down and clean it, since sometimes I need to do that, and to make it a little less cluttered. My shrines are good at gathering clutter. So sometimes I need to cut it down. And the last day of the year seems like as good a time as any.

I like Wep Ronpet, anyway. I like that chance to start anew. I don’t know how much of a coincidence that I set it to fall on the same day as Lammas, but eh. I think it’s kinda cool, and seeing Lammas as a first harvest, and also taking the chance, at Wep Ronpet, to look back at what I’ve achieved, and to look forward at what’s to come, seems like a good thing. I’ll decide on whether to do some traditional isfet smiting during the ritual, or at a separate time. I think it’s always better to focus a ritual on a single goal, rather than try to do several things at once. So I might leave the smiting til later.

Anyway, have some more photos of my shrine, and paragraphs of explanations. WOO. ❤

Festival Shrine: Mysteries of Wesir

Yeah, it’s kind of not for another couple of weeks for me, but I wanted to set it up now before my period turns up and I have to abstain from touching shrine things until it’s over. It’s been on my mind anyway, and it’s nice to have it all done so I can worry about other preparations, like the litany-story-thing Sobek has been prodding me about this afternoon, which I think He wants me to use for the Mysteries at some point? IDK, anyway, have some photos. 😀
