The 108 Prayers Project

So I’m currently working through the Rituals for Transformation book at the moment as part of a lot of transformation and change work I’ve been doing this year, and while I’m not going to share the journalling work, I am, for some daft reason, writing a prayer/hymn/etc for each day. And for some other daft reason, I’m posting them all on tumblr: https://108prayers.tumblr.com/

I’m not giving myself any restrictions on length or topic or structure or whatever. The aim is just to write and reflect and see what I come up with. I’m sure if I come up with any good ones, I’ll post them over here, but a lot of this is personal stuff, rather than devotional, so I’m keeping it in a separate place for now. I’m not really looking for feedback or concrit, either. They’re just daily things that my brain comes up with, and in the interests of accountability, I’m letting you all know about it here. So if you’re at all interested in seeing what I come up with, feel free to give it a follow.

30 Days of Sobek: Day 22 – Some writing that resonates strongly with Sobek

This is not as easy as you might imagine to find some sort of quote, poem or other piece of writing that Sobek resonates strongly with. The dearth of material around when I was starting out 17 years ago trained me to write things myself, so I never spent much time looking for devotional things other people had written or other pieces of writing Sobek resonated with. What was the point? There was nothing out there.

Even now, even in the past few years when there are more devotees out there, I haven’t gone collecting material. This is the problem being a writer. I can just write things myself, and not worry so much about trying to find pieces of writing others have written that Sobek resonates with. But then I am His scribe, so He sort of expects me to write for Him. So that’s what I mostly end up doing, rather than looking for what others have written.

Take this as your little divine nudge to write some more things for Him, so it’s not just me turning up in google searches. XD

Coronation of Heru-sa-Aset Day 1: Triumph Over Set

Welcome, Great Falcon!

Welcome in peace!

Welcome in triumph!

Welcome to You, Mighty One,

Who seizes His birthright from the rebel!

Come in peace, King of Kings,

The Two Lands are Yours.

Son of Aset, who rages because of Wesir,

You have driven the rebel from the Two Lands,

and overthrown the rebels who stand in Your way.

Lord of Ma’at, Justified One,

Stand tall, and claim the throne.

None will stand in Your way.

Great Lord, Your mother stands with You,

shrouding You with Her wings,

deflecting all that would harm You

As You soar across the skies,

surveying the Two Lands in peace.

Come, Great King,

Saviour of Your Father,

The Lady of the Throne crowns You.

The Strength of the King lifts You to the Heavens in triumph!

Rise, rise, rise, Great God,

Rise to the Heavens, Soaring Falcon!

Rise above the rebels and send them fleeing!

Your aim is true, perfect harpooner,

Brilliant Sharp-Eyed One.

None can hide from Your wrath.

Rise, Beautiful One, Perfect God, Lord of the Heavens,

Rise and claim the throne in peace,

Beautiful Lord, who wears the Double Crown in triumph!

Dua Heru-sa-Aset! Dua Aset! Nekhtet!

Happy Solstice!

Happy Solstice, everyone! I hope your rituals and celebrations have been going well, if you’ve been planning them. I hope you northern hemisphere types aren’t burning up under the power of the sun. Can you send some down here? It’s been horrid today.

I’m doing final preparations for my ritual tonight. It’s been wet and raining all day, so it’s been impossible to go out and buy any offerings, so I’m making do with what I can find at home. There’s some leftover beef from our Yule Feast last night, and I thought I’d offer that, along with some sort of drink. IDK yet. Depends how eager I am to drink something cold on a cold night.

(It’s still raining. Sobek’s presence is great today.)

I’ll post photos of the Yule Feast hearth later, but it was a great night, and it’s always good to mark the time with others. It’s never particularly pagan, but good company makes up for that. My parents are away tonight, at a friend’s 40th, and they’ll be back tomorrow, so I’ve got the house to myself now. Perfect for long rituals.

I’m at that point where I’m trying to figure out where everything’s going. Yeah. That’s always fun. I’ve been shifting tiny libation bowls around all afternoon, but I think I’ve just about got it organised. I’ve just finished writing the solstice hymn I’m going to use during the rite, and I thought I’d share it here for your enjoyment.

Happy Birthday, Sobek! :D

Gathering Offerings at the Shrine at Kom Ombo. Devotional Art for Sobek for His birthday festival on July 10th/II Peret 10, 2013. Coloured pencil and pen on bog-standard A3 cartridge paper.

Gathering Offerings at the Shrine at Kom Ombo. Devotional Art for Sobek for His birthday festival on July 10th/II Peret 10, 2013. Coloured pencil and pen on bog-standard A3 cartridge paper. Took me 7 hours. Worth every minute. ILU, Daddy. ❤

Just did a simple rite for Him this evening, though it was later than I had planned for, due to unexpected relatives dropping by (at some point unknown!) and I didn’t want to be interrupted. I kinda hoped all they wanted to do was drop something off and then leave, which they did, but I didn’t want to assume that, either, so it kind of made things more difficult than they needed to be. So the rite wasn’t quite at sunset, but about forty minutes later. But, I don’t think Sobek minded.

Still, I offered Sobek marinated chicken, which we had for dinner, a rum + Coke, and a mini mud cake thing (because birthdays!), as well as the art. I wrote a birthday hymn, which I read for Him at the beginning, and I read out His adorations once the offerings had been given.

And now I am playing ALL THE SABBATH because metal! and Sobek! and, well, like I need a reason, anyway, but. :D? Though I will be doing my 750words.com words in a moment before bed, because also LAPTOP IS COMING TOMORROW MORNING OMG. 8D?

Anyway, this is meant to be about Sobek, so instead of turning this into a DW entry, I’ll post the hymn I wrote for Him, and cc it over to the prayers/hymns section tomorrow.

Hymns for Sobek and Heru

I’ve started keeping a little 6inx8in sketchbook as a devotional art/prayer book thing for Heru and Sobek. It’s a smaller Strathmore journal, like the one I’m using for my epic big calendar thing, though it’s just bog standard sketching paper rather than Bristol board. I picked it over other journals because the cover has a pattern on it that reminds me of crocodile skin. It seemed appropriate. 😛

Art had been pouring out of me lately, as well as writing, so I’m taking this as a good sign that the Muses have been about lately, giving me Their gifts. That, and I’ve finally got over the burnout from writing ~60k that Harlequin fic in three weeks back in April or sommat. o.O? *collapses* Or, IDK, perhaps doing all those SDF rites has awoken up all my artistic creativity or something? *MAKES ALL THE ARTZ!*

But that’s for another post, I think. It’s a bit late to get a couple of pages scanned in, but I’ve filled about fourteen pages in about a week, with both art and writings. Been pondering Solstice!Heru as well, and getting some Heruakhety vibes. I’ve been connecting better with Heru lately, as well, since I was going to honour Him at Solstice and whatnot. Like, actually feeling Heru’s presence, slight and subtle that it is. More than once. And knowing it’s really Him. It’s like I finally found the right frequency, and He’s been coming in strong at last. So clearly I’m getting somewhere!

(I feel like I should make some sort of snide comment about how this wouldn’t be a problem if there weren’t +ELEBENTY different Herus to deal with, but…)
