First Day of the Month Ritual

House of Nut, House of Aset, House of Renenutet

Items/Tools:
– shrine
– images of Nut, Aset, and Renenutet, and the household gods.
– a small image of Ma’at
– two libation bowls (one for gods, one for ancestors)
– libations
– anointing oil
– incense and candles and matches

The Rite:
0) Approach the shrine and offer henu.

1) Anoint your brow with a dab of oil/perfume/water/etc and say:
I am pure, I am pure, I am pure, I am pure.
May I be bathed in the scent of the gods.

2) Light candles/shrine lamps and say:
Recieve the light, o gods, receive the light
Come to the shrine, o gods, and receive the light.

3) Light incense and say:
Sweet is the incense on the flame, o gods, sweet is the incense on the flame.
Come to the shrine, o gods, come to the shrine, sweet is the incense on the flame.

4) Offer henu, and recite a hymn:
Hail to you who open the way,
Hail to you who herald the flood,
Hail to you, Nut, who births the sun,
Hail to you, Aset, whose star shines bright,
Hail to you, Renenutet, who brings the flood.
Bring your light, and your vitality, Great Ones,
May this month be under your protection and power.

5) Offer water.
It is pure, it is pure, it is pure, it is pure.

This libation is for you, O Nut,
May you be cooled, may you be cooled.
May you be cooled, may you be cooled.

This libation is for you, O Aset,
May you be cooled, may you be cooled.
May you be cooled, may you be cooled.

This libation is for you, O Renenutet,
May you be cooled, may you be cooled.
May you be cooled, may you be cooled.

6) Offer incense:
The incense of the gods comes towards you.
The perfume of the gods comes towards you.
The perfume of the Eye of Heru comes towards you.
The perfume of Nekhbet, coming forth from Nekheb,
It adorns you, it washes over you.

7) Petition the household gods (Bes, Taweret, Bast, Yinepu) and the Ancestors and make libations.

8) Make any petitions, personal prayers, workings, or goals for the month ahead.

9) Revert libations given to the gods.
May I drink in your wisdom, O Gods.
May this water sustain me as it sustains you.

10) Offer Ma’at.
Ma’at comes to you, O Nut,
Ma’at comes to you, O Aset,
Ma’at comes to you, O Renenutet,
She is established everywhere you are,
She is established everywhere She desires to be.

11) Offer henu and close:
Hail to you, O Nut, I am purified,
Hail to you, O Aset, I am purified,
Hail to you, O Renenutet, I am purified.
I have come before you as the month begins
and I have made these rituals with you.
May you look favourably upon me,
and be at peace with me.

12) Extinguish candles, and remove the foot.
